Driving Transformation, Empowering Women, & Building the Future.

With over 345 members in good standing, South African Women in Construction and Built Environment (SAWIC & BE) is more than an association—it is a national movement driving transformation in the built environment sector.

Through advocacy, skills development, enterprise growth programmes, stakeholder engagement, and strategic partnerships, we are committed to strengthening the capacity, competitiveness, and visibility of women-led businesses across South Africa.

We exist to open doors, create opportunities, and ensure that women are not only included—but are empowered to lead and shape the future of the industry.

Government Collaboration

SAWIC & BE participated in a successful joint engagement with the Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, alongside the National Department of Human Settlements.

During this engagement, the Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration and formally encouraged SAWIC & BE to partner with the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) and her department to advance opportunities for women within the sector.

This event marked a significant step toward strengthening partnerships, driving transformation, and creating meaningful opportunities for women in construction and the built environment.

We don’t only build structures, we serve people, restore dignity, and walk with communities in their most vulnerable moments.

Community Outreach

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Supporting and uplifting vulnerable members of our communities through care, dignity, and compassion.

Serving with Compassion in Our Communities

This moment reflects the heart of our work beyond construction and business.

During one of our community outreach initiatives, we had the opportunity to support an elderly beneficiary in her time of need. Although her journey came to an end shortly after, we remained committed to honoring her life and supporting her family, including attending her funeral in the Eastern Cape.

This experience reminds us that our work is not only about building structures, but about serving people, restoring dignity, and making a meaningful difference where it matters most.

Recognising the dedication and lifelong contribution of the women who have shaped and strengthened SAWIC & BE

Recognising Our SAWIC Veterans

In 2024, the President, Clara Sodlulashe-Mwenze, hosted a special appreciation lunch to honour SAWIC veterans for their loyalty, commitment, and enduring contribution to the organisation.

Joined by the then SAWIC Executive, this gathering created a meaningful space to reflect, connect, and celebrate the women who have played a vital role in building and sustaining the organisation over the years.

This moment reflects SAWIC & BE’s deep appreciation for its members, past and present, whose dedication continues to shape its legacy.
